Yay! Another work period! Today Mr. Akrin was away, and we had a supply teacher, who was very nice. Mr. Arkin told us that today id supposed to be "HMTL Clean-Up Day". We are supposed to make sure all of our websites are validated, and make sure the grammar and spelling are correct. Then when we are done that, we were assigned to work on the rest of the selection assignments, because all of them are due on Monday. Hopefully they are as easy as the input and output assignments, but I kind of want to work on that at home, so I'm finishing up my blog right now. So far I don't have that much homework, and also I have the weekend to do everything, so today has been a pretty good. Have a great weekend.

Work Period
Today, as I hoped for, is a work period because there are some people away on the science trip. Though the work period is not much help because I finished all of my assignments. But...I can also use some improvements, maybe I will see the difference between my program codes from other student's program codes. Then I will change anything that needs to be improved. Today is supposed to be for catching up, or for seeking individual help, though I don't really need any. Oh wells. Tomorrow is Studio 218, we haven't had that for a while, since nobody signs up as the DJ, but we haven't had that mmuch work periods either, so I guess it's okay.

Can't Think of a Title
Today, we got our pop quiz back, and (thank god) I did not fail. I repeat, I did not fail! I'm so happy! :D Anyways, today we learned about if ladders, and boolean operators. I learned that there is only one unary boolean operator: not, but there is two binary boolean operators: or, and. We also wrote truth tables, not sure what that is for, but Mr. Arkin said that we are going to use it later on so okay. For homework, we were assigned a few more assignments.
Tomorrow, there are going to be a couple of students who are going to be away because of a science filed trip. So now I will hope that tomorrow will be a work period then. :D

Selection
Today, we started on selection. We learned about true parts and false parts, how it the boolean statement is true, the true part is executed, if the statement is false then the true part is skipped. Only if there is no false part (since it is optional), but if there is a false part then, if the statement is false then the false part is executed. For homework, we were assigned the first two assignments of the selection assignments.

Desk Checking
Today, we learned the most important thing we can learn in the course, tracing the execution of code (desk checking). Thinking like the computer, and writing down/executing ourselves what the computer would of done. Also we learned about arithmetic operators (unary and binary), and relational operators. Another interesting thing we learned today was the two boolean values (true, and false), they are named after a famous mathematician named Dr. George Boole. For homework we are to create two program tables, one consisting of the arithmetic operators, and one of the relational operators. That's pretty much it.

Bye Bye, Input!
Today was a wrap up for input, now we shall start learning selection. I wanted to start it, but even after reading the selection page on touque.ca, I still cannot understand a thing. Hopefully Mr. Arkin will have a more clear explanation of the functions and procedures. Or maybe I will ask a classmate for help. Since the selection assignments aren't mandatory and I'm doing my daily blog right now, I actually don't have homework for ICS, though I do have to write a sonnet for English and added two more stanzas for my ballad. Now I shall hope for little or no homework for the other subjects. Also, it's the weekends, yay! Hope everyone have a great one! Hopefully I will to!

Assignment 4
Today, due to the request of revising assignment 4, the whole class was spent working out the two different kind of solutions: long, but easily understood or short, but needs a lot of explaining. One thing I learned today that I didn't know before was that you did not have to do the sections in the oder you put them, you can start with the output section if you wanted to. So now that I know that, I think it's going to be a little more easier to so the programming codes. For homework, we were to make progress (according to us and what we've done) with the input assignments. That was about it for today's ICS class.

Assemblies...Got To Love Them!
Today we got to miss class because of a volunteer assembly!!! Yay, I mean aw, we had to miss class. Anyways that means I don't have a lot to write. Actually I don't have anything to write... In class, we were called down to the cafeteria, and for homework we didn't get anything. So for anyone who didn't do their homework yesterday, lucky you, because you get to finish it today! Me, I finished it yesterday. :D (Such a good girl, aren't I?)

Assignments... Aren't They Great?
More and more, they just keeps on coming. Programming assignments, we've been getting them non-stop for the pass week. Thought they aren't that hard, they are still very time consuming. I think half of the time I spend on homework is spent on the assignments. Though I'll admit one thing, they are kind of cool ... in a nerdy/geeky/irregular way. Anyways, today in class we got into groups of four and we were assigned to come up with the best code that we think (out of all of ours, mine didn't get picked). After we joined with another group and then we picked the best one out of the two former best ones. For homework, we were to make sure that our programming codes work and we were (guess what) given another assignment. That was pretty much it for today.

AH! Programming... So Confusing
Today we went further into the input coding using the oh so trustful program called Turing, we learned about the different sections: declaration, input, processing and output. We learned about where to put which kind of data, and what happens to the data in each of the different sections. For example, I learned that in the declaration section, it needs to be in alphabetical order, and in the processing section is where the "formulas" are stated. For homework we are to do assignments that let us practice on the different levels of putting data. It was confusing at first, but once I got the basic format/structure, it was pretty easy. I find the processing section most difficult, because it's sort of like math, except you need to write the "formulas" with words, which gives a lot of problems.
Anyways tomorrow is a late start day, so I can sleep in! I have a bunch of homework that are all very time consuming. Hopefully I can go to bed by say midnight! *sigh* Oh wells.

It's The Weekend Again! Yeah!
Today, we learned more keywords, these ones are used for input programming. We learned new keywords such as: get, string, and var. Mr. Arkin also showed us the ‘f9’ function in Turing, now if we don't know what a keyword does, we are just one button away from knowing. For homework, we got 3 assignments that encourages us to use the new keywords that we learned today. Also the new comments that we should use ( % declaration section, % output section, etc.), but three assignments are pretty good since it is the weekend.
Hope everyone will have a great weekend! :D

I Was Away
What did I miss? What did I miss? I had to ask that question a lot of times because of a geography trip, we climbed the Niagara Escarpment. Fortunately I didn't miss that much, in English, they played a game/had a free period. In French it was just presentations, and it was the geography trip.
In Computer Science, according to my sources, we learned three glossary terms. Also, we were assigned an assignment about an asterisk border. I don't know about the exact details, but I know what to do (sort of).

Character Graphics
For homework, we are to do some character graphics assignments. In order to do that, we learned some new programming terms, such as oncatenation operator, comma, %, output field and output-field width. With these new terms we are off to a good start. Just to clear the date up, it's because I did it at 2:00 in the morning, so I hope it still counts. Also, tomorrow I'm going on a field trip, so I'm pretty happy. Hopefully I don't miss that much tomorrow.

Turing
Today we learned programming terms, such as put and skip. We tried out these new terms on the program Turing. For homework we are supposed to try out more of the programming built-in functions. Beside that my computer wasn't working, and I had to move. Anyways that's all for today.

First Day All Over Again
Today we started programing. First we copied down a flow chart of what we need to do, but we were introduced to a program, Turing, that pretty much does everything for us. Today was also the end of HTML coding, Mr. Arkin was very nice and allowed us to have a party! I'm so happy! Anyways I think I'm just going to bring chips in.

Today, we learned a more in depth meaning of binary digits (bits). See my title, can you "crack the code" and figure out what it says. It's okay if you don't, I'll tell you. It says "Binary Digits", yes, that's right, that long chain of numbers spells out only those few letters. Well, when you know that one of those 8 digit chains only makes one letter, it sort of makes sense. We didn't do anything else today except learn about writing with bits. After we learned it, we were assigned to crack Mr. Arkin's blog post, which was written only in bits. After a long times of decoding, me and my partner - Ziyi, finally figured out what it was. It was:
ASCII Rules!
Today, my students learnt some binary arithmetic.
They can now count in binary!
There's was no homework today. I'm so happy, well of course there's this blog posting thing, but other than this I'm good to go. At least for ICS I am.

Kilobyte, Megabyte, Gigabyte, Terabyte
Today, we copied down more definitions. Four to be exact; ASCII, string, booting and character. One thing that was interesting to me was the 7-bit (binary digit), we learned about how it works, and how it's a 2 digit base. For homework, we were to update our Basic Glossaries, and find images for each of the new terms we did. The rest of the day was pretty good too, it was a late start day so the day automatically became cool. Also, I didn't get that much homework so I'm pretty happy. One more thing, instead of stating the day as my title. I'm just going to sign with the date from now on.

What's 2 to the power of 30?
Today, we copied down more glossary terms for our basic glossary. We learned about the difference between primary and secondary storages, RAM and ROM, but of course we copied down a bunch of other definitions. Such as kilobyte (2 to the power of 10 bytes), megabytes (2 to the power of 20 bytes), and gigabyte (2 to the power of 30 bytes), also we were to search the next five ~bytes for homework. Since I don't write cursive except for ICS because I'm faster and neater and the teachers let me write in printing, I was copying very slow and had to look at the person beside me. (Thank you Ziyi). For homework we are suppose to update our basic glossaries with the definitions we copied down today, and put it on the web.

The Third Weekend
Can you believe it? The first month of school is already over. It actually went by pretty fast. On Friday, we brainstormed and copied down more computer terms. We didn't even get to listen to our music, because we didn't get independent work time. It was just notes, notes, and more notes. For homework, we were to create a new page, "Basic Glossary", in addition to our Class Glossary. Also, we were to find 100 pixel by 100 pixel images for each word. Of course these pages need to be validated. After this, this will be the most detailed and have the most information provided glossary I've ever seen. Since usually, even in the dictionaries we buy everyday, they don't even include a images for every word. Maybe the occasional one or two words, but we do more work, to give more to the people who reads it. Though I think the only people reading it will be the ones that created one themselves, except Mr.Arkin, since he doesn't have to do it. Anyways I'm going to go back to finding images for my glossary.
